The Board of Directors of the St. Lawrence Child Care Council, Inc. is seeking a visionary, community-minded leader to serve as its next Executive Director. Based in Ogdensburg, NY, our agency is a nonprofit child care resource center (CCRC) organization dedicated to strengthening early childhood infrastructure, supporting working families and early childhood professionals across the North Country.

Position Overview The Executive Director provides strategic, financial, and operational leadership for the St. Lawrence Child Care Council, Inc. As the face of this nonprofit, you will oversee day to-day operations, lead a dedicated team of specialists, manage grant compliance, and advocate for accessible, high-quality early childhood education. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who thrives on building community partnerships and managing diverse revenue streams.
Key Responsibilities 1. Strategic Leadership & Governance - Collaborate closely with the Board of Directors to advance the agency's mission.
- Drive long-range strategic planning to meet evolving childcare landscape demands.
- Provide transparent reporting on agency outcomes, compliance, and financial health.
2. Financial Management & Grant Compliance - Develop, monitor, and manage the annual operational budget.
- Secure and oversee state, federal, and foundation grants (including NYS OCFS contracts).
- Maintain detailed compliance records and ensure prompt reporting to all funders.
3. Program Oversight & Community Engagement- Supervise the delivery agency services, programs, and resources.
- Serve as the primary public advocate for access to quality child care access in the local community. Build strong alliances with community agencies, school districts, business, economic and workforce development leaders.
4. Staff Leadership & Operations- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive office culture for a dedicated team.
- Recruit, train, evaluate, and retain high-performing program staff.
- Manage day-to-day administrative infrastructure, workflows, and logistics.
Qualifications & Requirements Required Education & Experience- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood, Human Services, Non-Profit Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- 3+ years of progressive leadership experience, preferably within a nonprofit, human services, or early childhood education setting.
- Proven experience managing budgets and grant-funded programs.
Essential Skills - Funding Fluency: Clear understanding of state-level child care funding mechanisms and grant administration.
- Communication: Exceptional written, verbal, and public presentation skills.
- HR Competency: Practical experience supervising and leading a professional team.
- Technology: Proficiency in standard office software and specialized client tracking or database systems.
Compensation & Benefits- Salary Range: $68,000 – $72,000 (commensurate with experience)
